Learn Typing – Lesson 1
Introduction to Typing (Beginner Friendly)
Typing is the skill of using a keyboard to write text quickly, accurately, and comfortably without looking at the keys. This method is called Touch Typing. In touch typing, each finger has a fixed position, and the most important position is called the Home Row.
What is the Home Row?
The Home Row is the middle row of letters on the keyboard where your fingers rest naturally.
Home Row Keys:
Left Hand: A S D F
Right Hand: J K L ;
The keys F and J have small raised lines (bumps). These bumps help you place your fingers correctly without looking.
Correct Finger Placement (Very Important)
Left Hand Fingers
Little Finger → A
Ring Finger → S
Middle Finger → D
Index Finger → F
Right Hand Fingers
Index Finger → J
Middle Finger → K
Ring Finger → L
Little Finger → ;
Thumbs
Both thumbs rest lightly on the Space Bar
Feel the bumps:
Most keyboards have a small raised plastic bump or ridge on the F and J keys. These allow you to find the home row without looking down.
Sitting Posture for Typing
Good posture makes typing easy and prevents pain.
Sit straight, keep your back relaxed
Feet flat on the floor
Elbows at a comfortable angle
Keyboard at waist level
Eyes on the screen, not on the keyboard
Why Home Row Typing is Important?
✔ Increases typing speed
✔ Improves accuracy
✔ Reduces finger movement
✔ Saves time in exams, jobs, and daily work
Note (Hindi): Home row se typing seekhne par haath thakte nahi aur speed apne aap badhne lagti hai.
First Practice (No Speed, Only Accuracy)
Keep your fingers on the home row and type slowly:
ffff jjjj
f j f j
ffff jjjj ffff
Focus only on:
Correct finger
No looking at keyboard
Common Beginner Mistakes
❌ Looking at the keyboard
❌ Using only two fingers
❌ Typing too fast in the beginning
Remember: Speed will come automatically with practice.
Practice Time Recommendation
⏱ 15–20 minutes daily
🎯 Accuracy first, speed later
