SSC CGL Typing Test
Formula to Calculate Typing Speed
CW: Total Correct Typed Words
RW: Total Incorrect Typed Words
TW: Total Typed Words (CW + RW)
Typing Speed (WPM) = CW / Time (in minutes)
Accuracy = (CW / TW) × 100%
The official SSC CGL Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) generally contains around 2,000 key depressions (approximately 350–400 words) to be typed within 15 minutes, which requires an average typing speed of about 27 words per minute with acceptable accuracy.
The passages provided on this website are intentionally longer (800–1000 words) and are categorized as Advanced Endurance Typing Tests. These are designed to help candidates build extreme typing stamina and train for higher speeds such as 60+ WPM while maintaining accuracy.
If a candidate is able to type even half of this content accurately within 15 minutes, they will be well prepared and can comfortably clear the actual SSC CGL DEST examination.

SSC CGL Typing Test 4: Master the Art of Recovery
You have speed. You have accuracy. But what happens when things go wrong? Welcome to Typing Test 4: The Recovery Protocol.
In the actual exam hall, nerves play a huge role. You might skip a word, or your finger might slip. Most candidates panic, leading to a cascade of errors. This practice set is designed to teach you how to "Reset & Recover" without losing your qualification.
[Image of correct typing posture and hand placement]SSC typing tests require a minimum speed of 35 w.p.m. (English) or 30 w.p.m. (Hindi) within 10 minutes. It is a qualifying test where accuracy is paramount.
The Rules of Engagement:
- Speed Threshold: 35 WPM (English) / 30 WPM (Hindi).
- Test Duration: 10 Minutes (Standard) / 15 Minutes (DEST - 2000 Key Depressions).
- Accuracy: Evaluated to two decimal places. High accuracy is non-negotiable.
- Mistake Types:
Full Mistakes: Omission, Substitution, Addition.
Half Mistakes: Spacing, Punctuation, Capitalization. - Permissible Errors: Generally 5% (UR) to 10% (Reserved Categories), subject to notification.
The "Panic Spiral" vs. Controlled Recovery
When you make a mistake in the exam, your natural instinct is to rush to make up for lost time. This is a trap. Rushing increases your "Wrong Word" count, which destroys your Net Speed score.
Understanding exactly how errors compound is vital. As shown in the diagram above, a single error doesn't just reduce your accuracy; it actively penalizes your calculated speed. Test 4 forces you to practice the "Stop-Breathe-Type" method: realizing an error, pausing for a micro-second, and resuming with perfect rhythm.
Why Attempt SSC CGL Typing Test 4?
This test utilizes a Variable Difficulty Algorithm. The passage will alternate between very simple sentences and dense, complex paragraphs involving brackets and hyphens.
Rhythm Restoration
This test trains you to maintain a steady cadence (rhythm) even after typing difficult special characters like (brackets) or "quotes".
The "Burst" Technique
Learn when to speed up (on common words like "the", "and", "government") and when to slow down (on dates and numerical figures).
Final Tip: Posture is Power
During moments of panic, candidates often hunch forward, restricting blood flow and finger movement. Maintain the ergonomic posture shown in the earlier diagram to ensure your wrists remain floating and agile throughout the full duration.
START RECOVERY DRILL 4Stay calm. Type precise. Qualify.
